So what’s the perfect summer must have for all angelic, flowing tops? Jean shorts of course! As you may have figured out, I have a slight obsession with them this summer.
This is the simplest DIY and you save a bunch of money. Don’t get conned by the allure of easy Forever 21, just follow these 5 steps.
1. Go to your nearest thrift store. Buy a cheap pair of denim jeans. They can be distressed, plain wash, or even 80s. Don’t worry about the style of the pant, just make sure they fit you how you are comfortable at your waste and butt. (personally, I go up a size so that they are comfortable and slightly looser.
2. Draw a line on your thigh with pen a couple inches below where you want them to end. Cut them straight across the line. Remember you can always cut more off and they will get shorter when they fray up.
TIP: Cut the back of the leg a bit longer than the front, this is creates a slimming illusion.
(If you often cut your own clothes it’s worth it to invest in a $10 pair of fabric scissors, they cut much better)
3. Try them to make sure you like the length. If not then carefully re-cut. If you like them, cut an inch (or so) long slit on each outer seams.
4. Now make them your own:
Distress them by cutting little holes where you want and creating mini frays
Rub/scrape the side of your scissors horizontally against the weave of the jean. Tufts of jean will come off and the white fabric will become exposed for the ultimate worn in beach shorts
Rip the pocket open and put studs for a rocker look
There you go! The perfect on-the-go summer shorts!
